Witness

This artwork portrays the resilient church in Communist China through the image of a great tree. Its shimmering gold rings capture the hidden years of struggle, endurance, and flourishing faith, each one a testimony to believers who, despite persecution, continue to spread the Gospel.

At its center, the map of China reminds us that this witness is deeply rooted in the soil of the nation. Created from the growth rings of a 60-year-old eucalyptus—an “invasive” tree—the material itself symbolizes how, like the eucalyptus, the church only spreads deeper and wider when suppressed.

The black trunk and roots recall sacrifice and martyrdom, while the radiant gold proclaims victory. What once thrived in secrecy now shines openly: Christ’s church in China—alive, expanding, and unstoppable.
